CREATIVE WRITING

suitable for year 3 and upwards how to read, write and perform poetry, or, perhaps develop certain aspects of storywriting, or playwriting, whatever you feel is appropriate for your needs.

In a class one day, a pupil was clearly being bullied. After a brief chat, this was written by the victim. It deserves its place at the head of this page.

Working with mental health sufferers in the Staffordshire Moorlands, I ran a series of workshops from which they wrote poems highlighting certain aspects of their condition. I created this River of Words using their poetry. It needs patience to read it properly, a quality most people lack when dealing with sufferers.
It's now on public display in Leek Library, Staffs Moorlands.

Seasoned Friendship

They were friends
For many a long year
They sat together so closely
Eliminating all  fear
Lifelong souls
in the autumn of their years
He'd hold her trembling hand
and wipe away her tears

Liverpool Mental Health Day

This poetry wall is a metaphor for mental health issues. All written by different people on the day, using different styles, different words and different approaches. Some sad, some happy.

The wall that most sufferers face when trying to work through being ill can be this high. You need patience to read it, yet there are a few larger gaps in the "mortar", to allow the sufferer to look out and gain hope.
